Service Introduction

Understanding the Whole Child

Children and young people may experience emotional, behavioural or developmental difficulties in different ways. These can affect their wellbeing, relationships, education and everyday life.

Our psychologists consider the child's strengths, experiences, environment and developmental stage alongside the concerns that led to their referral. This helps build a clearer understanding of their needs and informs appropriate recommendations.

How We Can Support

Psychological Assessment and Formulation

  • Comprehensive psychological assessments
  • Cognitive, emotional, behavioural and social functioning assessments
  • Neurodevelopmental assessments within a multidisciplinary framework
  • Clinical interviews and observations
  • Psychometric testing, where appropriate
  • Individualised psychological formulation
  • Recommendations to inform a personalised care plan

The assessment process will vary depending on the child's needs and the questions being explored.

  • Trauma-informed psychological therapies
  • Attachment-based interventions

  • Play therapy and developmentally informed psychotherapy for younger children

The psychologist will explain the recommended approach, what sessions may involve and how progress will be reviewed before support begins.

Everyday Support

Supporting Development, Regulation andEveryday Functioning

Psychological support may also focus on positive behaviour planning, emotional regulation, coping skills, executive functioning and self-management. Our psychologists provide strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming support for autistic children, young people with ADHD and those with learning differences.

Where appropriate, support may also involve parent guidance, family-based interventions, school recommendations or group-based psychological work. Any involvement from family members, schools or other professionals will be discussed in advance and managed in line with consent and confidentiality requirements.
